In the early 1970s a new form of music was emerging in the South. Throughout the 1980’s the band’s popularity grew with a string of MTV music video hits, featuring a more straight-forward rock vibe. Their follow-up album, the most well known and successful of their albums, Flirtin’ with Disaster was released in 1979. In 1978 the band released its first album titled Molly Hatchet. Founded by Dave Hlubek and Steve Halland, the band was soon signed to Epic Records and supported by Ronnie Van Zant and legendary band Lynyrd Skynyrd. “It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of our friend and band member, Phil McCormack,” the band said in a statement.Īmerican Southern Rock band, Molly Hatchet was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1975.
